Night curfew clamped in Assam till May 1 to tide over COVID crisis

GUWAHATI:

Amid the sharp spike in COVID-19 positive cases, the Assam government on Tuesday imposed night curfew across the state from 8 pm to 5 am with immediate effect till May 1, 2021.

During this time, there shall be a total ban on the movement of individuals, an order issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority stated.

Movement of people related to essential services, medical staff, pregnant women and patients, people going for COV1D-19 vaccination, persons coming from/going to airports/railway stations/ISBTs with valid tickets, judicial officers/officials of courts of Assam, officers/officials related to the functioning of offices of diplomats of various countries as well as persons holding any constitutional post (on the production of valid identity card), electronic and print media (on the production of valid identity card), et al has been exempted.

“There shall be no restriction on inter-state and intra-state movement/transportation of essential/non-essential goods. No separate permission/ e-pass will be required for such movement,” the order stated.

“Any person violating these measures will be liable to be proceeded against as per provisions of Section 51 to 60 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, besides, legal action under Sec 188 of IPC and other legal provisions as applicable. 

This order shall come into force with immediate effect and will remain in force till May 1, 2021,” it read.
