GUWAHATI:

All India Mahila Congress president Sushmita Dev has urged Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to take urgent measures to rescue the labourers trapped in a coal mine in East Jaintia Hills since the night of May 30.

In a letter to Sangma on Sunday, Dev, a former Lok Sabha MP from Silchar, stated that, “Although search and rescue operations are on, as per report, many of them are yet to be recovered. I would like to specially mention the two labourers of Assam namely, Anwar Hussain of Najatpur village of Katigorah and Abdul Sukkur of Badarpur who are yet to be traced.”

“It is needless to mention that the family members of the two labourers are suffering from serious mental agony about their whereabouts. They are anxiously waiting for the safe rescue of their wards by the administration,” she stated.

“Considering the gravity of the situation, I would request you to kindly take necessary measures for rescue of the two labourers at the earliest possible,” she added.

Dev has also written a letter to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, seeking urgent intervention regarding the operations to rescue the trapped labourers from Assam in the neighbouring state.
