DIBRUGARH:

Raijor Dal President Akhil Gogoi on March 11 withdrew his nomination from Mariani constituency for the upcoming Assam Assembly polls and he will contest from Sivasagar seat.

Raijor Dal is a newly floated regional party born out of the anti-CAA movement.

Raijor Dal allied with Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) led by Lurinjyoti Gogoi to contest the ensuing Assam Assembly elections.

Gogoi had filed nominations from two constituencies Mariani and Sivasagar on March 6 at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

The working president of Raijor Dal Bhasco De Saikia announced this on Thursday evening.

“The decision of Akhil Gogoi not contesting from his home constituency is a sacrifice by our party. It is with the sole aim of increasing more MLA to oppose the BJP in the Assam assembly,” Saikia said.

“Now Akhil Gogoi will contest from Sivasagar’s seat and we are sure that he will win the seat,” Saikia further said.

“Our sole intention is to defeat BJP in the upcoming election. So, anyone from the opposition party can contest the seat,” Saikia added.

Akhil Gogoi will contest from Sivasagar constituency, which is an Ahom community.

Akhil Gogoi is a peasant leader, and he has a base in the rural pockets of Assam.
