DIBRUGARH:

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday announced that inter-district movement in the state will resume from August 16.

Speaking to media persons in Guwahati, CM Sarma said, "Total Curfew has been lifted from all the districts in Assam. However, relaxed curfew will start from 5 pm and shops have been directed to close by 4 pm."

"But in Lakhimpur and Golaghat, shops will close by 12 pm and curfew will come into force at 1 pm till 5 in the morning next day."

"We are planning to further extend curfew relaxations till 6 pm by next week if everything goes according to the plan," CM Sarma asserted.

The new relaxed timing for curfew comes into effect after Assam witnessed a decline in COVID positive cases, and things started improving during the last few days.

"Everything will be normal after August 16. After inter-district movement opens up, then things will gradually start improving. The transport sector was badly hit after the inter-district ban. Many private bus owners are facing crisis," said an official.

It may be mentioned that the Assam government had imposed a ban on inter-district travel from May 21, 2021, after the state witnessed a surge in COVID-19 positive cases.
