Illegal dwelling units dismantled from Assam reserve forest

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had on Tuesday directed officials of the state forest department to take immediate steps for reforms in the department to make it more agile and effective in implementing initiatives for preservation of forests and wildlife protection.

GUWAHATI:

Seven illegally constructed dwelling units were dismantled and unauthorised agar and betel nut plantations uprooted at Batkai Tilla Reserve Forest of Cheragi Range under Karimganj Forest Division on Tuesday.

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had on Tuesday directed officials of the state forest department to take immediate steps for reforms in the department to make it more agile and effective in implementing initiatives for preservation of forests and wildlife protection.

The forest personnel also dismantled four fisheries at Singla Reserve Forest under Karimganj Forest Division.
Forest authorities disclosed on Wednesday that around 15 hectares of land have been recovered following the operation.
