DIBRUGARH:

Mixed reactions have poured in Upper Assam after Himanta Biswa Sarma was selected as the new Chief Minister of Assam on Sunday.

Sarma is the convenor of North-East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) and the chief person behind the Bharatiya Janata Party’s success in the Northeastern states.

Himanta Biswa Sarma, popularly known as ‘Mama’ earned the reputation because of his charismatic leadership.

“Himanta Biswa Sarma deserved to be the Chief Minister of Assam. He is the person who has worked hard for the party. Last year during the Covid crisis, he showed how to work during the pandemic. As a resident of Dibrugarh we feel bad for Sarbananda Sonowal but Himanta Biswa Sarma deserved the post of CM,” said Amit Jain, a member of Dibrugarh district Bharatiya Janta Yuba Morcha (BJYM).

Rajiv Dutta, a resident of Dibrugarh, said, “Sarbananda Sonowal was a successful Chief Minister in the last five years. After he became the Chief Minister, he decentralized the power from Dispur to other districts of Assam. Sarbananda Sonowal is a soft-spoken gentlemen politician who has contributed a lot for the upliftment of his party.”

“We congratulate Himanta Biswa Sarma as the next Chief Minister of Assam. In the coming five years we will see lots of development in Assam,” said Ramesh Deori, a resident of Dibrugarh.
