Football legend Diego Maradona's heritage watch recovered from Assam; one arrested
The police said that the Hublot watch was stolen from Maradona when he was alive and the Dubai police were investigating the robbery. During their investigation, Dubai Police received information about the whereabouts of the watch and contacted the Assam Police, who swiftly took action and arrested Hussein.

A heritage, limited-edition watch, believed to have been used by football legend late Diego Maradona, was recovered from Dariaghat in Assam’s Sivasagar district, on December 11.
The watch, worth around Rs 20 lakh, had gone missing from Dubai and was recovered from the possession of a man who used to work in the populous city and had returned to India in August this year, the police said. He has been identified as Wazid Hussein.
“In an act of international cooperation @assampolice has coordinated with @dubaipoliceHQ through Indian federal LEA to recover a heritage @Hublot watch belonging to legendary footballer Late Diego Maradona and arrested one Wazid Hussein (sic)," said Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a tweet, on Saturday.
Acting on an input, a joint team of Sivasagar and the Dubai police through Indian Federal LEA, recovered the watch, the police said.
Hussein, who was working as a watchman for a Dubai-based company since 2016 and had returned to India this year, claimed that the watch was given to him by a Nigerian man, identified as Derik, and since, Hussein had been using it.
The police said that the Hublot watch was stolen from Maradona when he was alive and the Dubai police were investigating the robbery. During their investigation, Dubai Police received information about the whereabouts of the watch and contacted the Assam Police, who swiftly took action and arrested Hussein.
“The watch belonged to the Argentine football player and was stored in Dubai along with his other belongings in a safe," said Assam director-general of police Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta.
Earlier, the DGP had tweeted, "A costly Hublot watch... Maradona... Dubai... Assam Police Looks like random words, don't they? But today all these words came together nicely, stating a story of successful International Cooperation between Dubai Police and @assampolice (sic)."
