DIBRUGARH:

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday appealed to the people to follow the COVID-19 guidelines set by the government to contain the spread of the virus.

“Like last year, the people should follow the guidelines set by the Health department on COVID,” Sonowal said.

“Everyone should celebrate Bihu by following the COVID-19 guidelines. It’s festival time. Everyone should celebrate festivals but wear masks and sanitised your hands regularly,” CM said.

Assam is in a festive mood as people engage themselves in the celebration of Rongali Bihu.

However, many Bihu committees are not following safety protocols, thus raising concerns as Assam is witnessing a spike in COVID-19 cases.

The Assam government had asked the Bihu committees to wrap up Bihu functions by 11 pm.

Assam’s COVID-19 tally rose to 2,22,367 as 499 more people tested positive for the infection on Thursday.

The state now has 3,613 active cases, with 2,16,284 recoveries.

The death toll rose to 1,123 as one more person succumbed to the disease on Thursday.
