DIBRUGARH:

Charaideo Deputy Commissioner, Binita Pegu along with Additional Deputy Commissioner, Moushumi Chetia flagged off a “COVID-19 Awareness E-Rickshaws” campaign at Sonari College Field in Charaideo, upper Assam, on Sunday.

Organised by Adventist Development & Relief Agency (ADRA), the campaign will see “infotainment” rickshaws circling the villages in the district spreading awareness about the virus, its symptoms, prevention and, push the vaccination drive, especially among the tea garden community.

“We feel it is important to sensitise the rural and marginalised communities because they have very limited access to proper information. We are honoured to be able to reach out to the tea garden communities in Assam through innovative ways. We hope that our contribution will help stop the spread of COVID-19,” said Weston Davis, Country Director, ADRA India. The campaign will also organise street plays and awareness sessions for a fruitful impact.

Launched under ADRA India’s “Risk Communication Programme” in July 2021, the campaign has been spreading awareness about the deadly virus with the help of local volunteers in the tea gardens of the district.

“We were working with the tea garden communities of Assam before the pandemic. After COVID-19, we felt it was our duty to tread the extra mile to support the community,” said Rajan J Pydimalla, Programme Director, ADRA India.
