DIBRUGARH:

Domestic carrier Indigo started another flight from Dibrugarh to Imphal on Monday, under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) – UDAN programme of the Government of India.

The Indigo flight 6E 7948 will now connect Kolkata and Imphal with Dibrugarh on a daily basis, and the flight will take around 1 hour and 15 Minutes to reach Imphal from Dibrugarh.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by the Airport Director (Dibrugarh Airport), R. Awasthi, Assistant Commandant (CISF), Gautam, and other Airport Officials of AAI and Indigo

Expressing his views on the inaugural flight, Awasthi said that the increase in the number of flights is making Dibrugarh Airport an aviation hub for travellers from around the country and the world.

"The RCS- UDAN scheme has added wings to the existing travel experience, especially for first-time travellers. At present, there are nine flights departing from Dibrugarh Airport, handling around 1200 Passengers every day, amid covid-19 related advisory. And we are optimistic that once the restrictions are lifted, the Airport will reach its pre- COVID level air traffic growth enabling passengers more convenience in air travel," Awasthi said.

With the latest addition, Dibrugarh Airport is now connected to four state capitals of North East India- Guwahati, Agartala, Imphal and Dimapur.

It may be mentioned that the flights under the RCS- UDAN scheme have connected various remote areas of North-East India, making travelling convenient for the public in the region.

Notably, this is the third flight under RCS- UDAN scheme to start its operations from Dibrugarh Airport. The first flight connects Dibrugarh with Dimapur (presently the flight is suspended), while the second flight connects Dibrugarh with Agartala and it operates on three days namely Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
