GUWAHATI:

Assam is looking to expedite Aadhaar enrolment and generation to complete the entire exercise in the state by August 31 this year.

The commissioner and secretary, general administration department, through a directive issued on Thursday, asked the deputy commissioners to focus on accelerating the process in areas of their respective districts where Aadhaar generation has not been satisfactory so far.

“Centres may be set up in camp mode wherever necessary in coordination with UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) as and when required. Enrolment of not more than 10 persons per hour to be done in each centre,” the order stated.

“Services of field-level functionaries may be utilised to visit house-to-house in the jurisdiction area to check and ensure Aadhaar enrolment/generation of each individual,” it said.

“The deputy commissioners may consider continuing the engagement of original vendors through contract arrangement with the general administration department (GAD) only until the required period on agreed terms,” the order stated.

“DCs may decide to close the additional centres wherever they are not required depending on total enrolment/generation in the located areas of the district. The details of the centres which are operational may be informed to the government. The entire Aadhaar enrolment exercise shall have to be completed by August 31, 2021,” it added.

The directive further stated that such acceleration of the enrolment exercise becomes imperative in view of the various beneficiary schemes being introduced by the Centre and the Assam government from time to time.
