DIBRUGARH:

Three days after three youths went missing from Dibrugarh's Lalmati Tinsukia Gaon, family members and residents of the village have sought the intervention of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to bring them back.

The youths - Kushal Sonowal (25), Dhananjoy Sonowal (18) and Sumon Sonowal (20) from Lalmati Tinsukia Gaon - had gone to attend a marriage at Ophulia Gaon on September 19, and have gone missing since then.

"We don't know where they are. We are in tension because three days have passed and they haven't returned home. We appeal Assam chief minister to take urgent steps to bring them back," said Dhananjoy's father.

Speculations among the local people are rife that the youths may have joined the proscribed outfit United Liberation Front of Asom- Independent (ULFA-I).

"We cannot rule out such a thing, but without any proof, we cannot draw any conclusion as well. Our investigation is going on," Superintendent of Police Shwetank Mishra told The Northeast Today (TNT).

Speculations of them having joined ULFA-I stem from previous incidents of youth from the village joining the banned militant outfit.
