Assam: ULFA-I terms Oil India Limited recruitment policy as 'biased'

"The indigenous people of Assam have rights over the natural resources of Assam. They have every right to enjoy the benefits from the industries which have been set up on these resources, be it jobs or other benefits," ULFA-I chief Paresh Baruah said in a statement.

DIBRUGARH:

Terming the Oil India Limited (OIL) recruitment process as 'biased', the United Liberation Front of Asom - Independent (ULFA-I) has asked the public sector enterprise to make the recruitment process state-centric by giving chance to the eligible indigenous candidates of the state.

"The indigenous people of Assam have rights over the natural resources of Assam. They have every right to enjoy the benefits from the industries which have been set up on these resources, be it jobs or other benefits," ULFA-I chief Paresh Baruah said in a statement.

OIL had released an employment notification recently for the recruitment of 120 Junior Assistants (Clerk-cum-Computer Operator) from OIL's production and exploration areas of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, namely Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Sivasagar and Changlang districts.

Describing the recruitment drive to be regional in nature, the union further stated that OIL's recruitment policy has taken into consideration only a few districts, and neglected the other districts of the Assam.

"The candidates of other districts have been deprived of the opportunity. Therefore we, the ULFA-I oppose the biased recruitment process of Oil India Limited," the union added.

The union maintained that instead of giving opportunities to candidates from only these four districts, OIL must consider giving chances to eligible indigenous candidates from across the state.
