Assam: Two persons injured; three houses gutted in Jorhat fire

Two persons sustained injuries after three houses were gutted in a massive fire at Jankhona village of Baligaon area in Assam's Jorhat district on Saturday.

According to locals, the three houses belonging to Nanda Das, Ramen Das and Pankaj Das, who were brothers living in the same compound, were destroyed in the blaze.

One of the injured persons identified as Prem Kanta Das has been referred to Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh, while the other Babu Das has been admitted to Sanjivani Hospital in Jorhat, for further treatment, the police said.

According to locals, the exact cause of the fire is yet be ascertained, but they heard the sound of an explosion, most likely to be of an explosion of LPG cylinder.

“We rushed to help the families but could not save the belongings of the three families. They have lost everything in the fire,” said a resident.

Four fire tenders pressed into service to douse the inferno.
