Assam: Two persons drown in Buridehing river

Two youths reportedly drowned in the Buridehing river at Lezai Bahbari under Barbaruah police station in Upper Assam's Dibrugarh district on Wednesday.

According to reports, the duo -- Sanu Khanikar and Shirumoni Bora, had gone to the river to bathe their cattle on the occasion of Goru Bihu.

State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) managed to fish out the body of Khanikar but could not trace Bora.

"Both of them went to wash their cattle on the occasion of Goru Bihu at Buridehing river but (were) washed away by the river," said an eyewitness.

"The SDRF team has been conducting search operations in the river to trace the other youth, but till now, they (are yet to) trace the whereabouts of Shirumoni Bora. The district administration is also helping the SDRF team by giving all the required assistance," said a police official.
