Assam priest arrested for sexually assaulting 15-yr-old girl in Karbi Anglong
The arrested priest has been identified as Welson Tisso (31) of Matipung under Diphu Police Station.
Assam police on Saturday arrested a 31-year-old priest for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl in Diphu, Karbi Anglong on July 22.
The arrested priest has been identified as Welson Tisso (31) of Matipung under Diphu Police Station.
Tisso has been serving as a general secretary of Karbi Kurusar Chingrum Amei (KKCA), a social organisation comprising of a group of Karbi traditional priests.
The matter came to light when the victim’s parents approached a women’s organisation, who then rushed to the accused's residence at Matipung, along with the members of the Karbi Students' Association (KSA) on Saturday.
"According to the victim’s parents, since their area does not have good mobile connectivity for attending online classes, the father of the victim (known to Tisso) thought that his daughter would be able to give her online exams from Tisso's residence. But on the night of July 22, Tisso raped the girl at his residence," the president of the women organisation Beulet Beypi said.
It was alleged that the accused threatened and scared the girl, stating that if she tells anyone, he will bewitch using traditional tricks.
United Karbi Anglong women Association (UKAWA) president Malin Ingtipi has demanded strict action against the accused and said the case should be taken to a fast track court.
The women’s organisation members brought Tisso to Diphu police station where a case was filed and, the accused was arrested.
