Assam Police seize drugs worth Rs 9 crore from vehicle coming from Manipur; arrest six

The police officials said that the drugs were packed in 100 soapboxes and were stashed inside the dashboard and other voids in the rear of a vehicle.

DIBRUGARH:

Intensifying their crackdown on drugs traffickers, Assam Police, on Sunday, carried out a raid on the outskirts of Guwahati and seized close to 1.3 kg of heroin, worth Rs 9 crore in the international market.

The police officials said that the drugs were packed in 100 soapboxes and were stashed inside the dashboard and other voids in the rear of a vehicle.

Six persons, namely Khaiminlal Touthang (34), Seiminthang Mate (37), Paominthang Lhanghal (30,), Kailalson Khongsai (35), Lulun Kuki (51 yrs), and Kamkhojim (56 yrs), were travelling in the vehicle from Moreh, a Manipur town along the India-Myanmar border. Officials also added that the police department had prior information of the consignment coming from Manipur.

All the six drug peddlers hail from Manipur and were being assisted by a duo -Pintu Ray and Nur Islam - who too were held later, the police said, adding that Rs. 6000, 3 mobile phones, 3 syringes, and 140 empty plastic were also seized from the two.

The police informed that the duo from Guwahati has several pending cases registered against them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
