DIBRUGARH:

Police arrested one drug peddler and seized 47.3 grams of heroin from his possession during a raid at the Dibrujan Railway line in Dibrugarh, Assam, on Sunday.

Acting on reliable inputs, a police team led by DSP Anup Jyoti Baruah, Officer in charge of Dibrugarh PS Rajiv Saikia, and TSI Arjun Singh, conducted a raid at the residence of Salim Hussain alias Guddu and recovered heroin worth around Rs 5 lakh.

"We have seized 47.3 grams of heroin from a drug peddler. Our crackdown against drugs will continue. He will be forward to court on Monday," Saikia said.

Sources state that Dibrugarh has served as a hub of the narcotics trade as "drug smugglers run the racket in an organised way."

"The drug smugglers involve women and children in their team for easy transporting of the contraband items. Through an organised way, the whole nexus has been running in Dibrugarh," said a source.

Sources also informed that drug smugglers bring the contraband from Bihar via railways.
