Assam police recover Rs 16.33 lakh from domestic help's residence, arrested

The domestic help, identified as Rumena Begum, was arrested from the Durgabari area in Dibrugarh.

Dibrugarh police on Saturday recovered more than ₹ 16.33 lakh from the house of one woman, who works as a domestic help at the residence of a doctor, in Dibrugarh, Assam.

The domestic help, identified as Rumena Begum, was arrested from the Durgabari area in Dibrugarh.

The recovery and arrest were made after the doctor, Premananda Das, a resident of Jalan Nagar, filed a complaint at Dibrugarh police station, suspecting the woman of committing theft.

Acting on the complaint, police raided the rented house of the domestic help and recovered the cash.

"For last two years, the maid was involved in this nefarious activity. Every day, she took away Rs 20,000 to 30,000. I kept the money in my locker. I had my doubts' so, I placed mobile in the room to record the movement, and Begum was seen taking money from the locker," Das said.

"We can't say anything right now because we are interrogating the woman," a police official said.
