DIBRUGARH:

An Assam police constable was arrested from Sadiya in Tinsukia district on Monday in connection with the kidnapping of three ONGC employees.
The police constable has been identified as Basanta Buragohain of Chapakhowa and was arrested by Sadiya police.

"We have arrested Basanta Buragohain for his alleged involvement with ULFA-I. We have taken Buragohain in our custody and started interrogating him," said a police source.

It is suspected that at least five other Assam police personnel were involved in the abduction.

"We are investigating the case and can't speak much about the involvement of other police personnel in the abduction case. We will not spare anyone involved in the abduction case," the source said.

On April 21, three ONGC employees were abducted by ULFA-I cadres in an ambulance from Romonia workover RIG in Lakuwa area of Sivasagar district in Upper Assam.

The next day, Sivasagar police arrested 14 persons in connection with the abduction.

On Friday evening, two of the three ONGC employees, namely junior technician (production) Mohini Mohan Gogoi (35) and junior engineering assistant (production) Alakesh Saikia (28), were rescued in a joint operation by the Indian Army and Assam Rifles from Nagaland's Mon district.

Meanwhile, security forces have launched counter-insurgency operations to rescue the third employee, Ritul Saikia (33).
Sources state that Ritul may have been taken to Myanmar.
