DIBRUGARH:

Assam Police on Monday arrested two persons in connection with the rape of a woman from the tea tribe community in Charaideo district of Assam.

The woman was allegedly raped by two men while she was walking home, after being denied an ambulance by the hospital authorities.

Talking to media persons, Charaideo SP Sudhakar Singh said, "We have picked up two persons in connection with the rape case. The incident was reported on May 27 evening when the woman and her daughter were discharged from Sapekhati Model Hospital after having tested COVID negative. On their way back home, two men kidnapped the mother, took her to some isolated place and raped her."

"Next day, the victim filed a complaint after which we started the investigation and picked up two persons last night. The victim had identified both the persons and upon her identification both were arrested. As per law, we will forward them to court." Singh added

According to reports, the incident reportedly happened at Dhudarali near the Borhaat tea garden area.

It was informed that the victim is a resident of Borhaat Nagamaati. The distance between the hospital and the Borhaat Nagamaati area is about 25 km.

Meanwhile, the Assam Tea Tribes Students' alleged that it was due to negligence on the part of the hospital that the incident happened.

The victim's daughter has also held the hospital authorities responsible for the incident, maintaining that the medical staff neither made arrangements for their stay nor did they provide an ambulance for them to travel back home.

"After being discharged from the hospital, we had asked the medical staffs to manage an ambulance or vehicle for our return. But the hospital could not manage the same. Then we decided to walk, and on the way, the incident happened," said the victim's daughter.
