DIBRUGARH:

A cadre of the proscribed National Socialist Council of Nagaland – Khango surrendered in front of the Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles in a joint operation with Tirap Police on Friday.

The cadre has been identified as Wanghong Ngowa, a self-styled assistant political officer of the banned outfit, who was recruited by consent in 2018.

The security forces are reported to have convinced Ngowa to join the mainstream. Especially, the company commander of the Khonsa Battalion has been proactively engaged in convincing cadres to give up arms.

This recent surrender may motivate other cadres of various groups to join the mainstream in future, and further weaken the underground organisations active in the area, the security forces informed.

In December last year, Starson Lamkang, a Manipuri Naga from Lamkang tribe and ex-leader of the Khaplang-Yung Aung  faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland, surrendered along with 52 other cadres.
