JORHAT:

Assam Police on Wednesday arrested an imposter in Jorhat, identified as Biswajit Dutta, who pretended to be the District Magistrate of Titabar in order to defy COVID restrictions and attend his girlfriend's birthday party.

As per the reports of GPlus News, Dutta had put up a printout reading 'District Magistrate' in front of a rented car and attended his girlfriend's birthday party in Dhekiajuli, Assam

The driver of the rented car, also duped by the accused promising to pay enough, said, "I took him to a birthday party and he told me that he will stay there. I was asked to go back and then he called me again the next day and I took him to many areas. The overall oil expense was around Rs 5,000."

The Cinnamara Police outpost on verifying the matter with the district administration arrested Biswajit. The man allegedly tried to find faults with the policemen on duty at the outpost, claiming himself to be the Magistrate.

Crime records have revealed the accused to be guilty of similar crimes in the past.

Earlier, he claimed to be a part of the district child protection service and then a juvenile lawyer. In April 2020, he was arrested for showing himself as a doctor along with two others, and then selling tobacco products.
