GUWAHATI:

Assam, on Tuesday, launched an e-application called "Fishwaale", slated to be the country's first e-fish market app.

Launching the app, Parimal Suklabaidya, Minister for Fisheries, Environment and Forest and Excise, said that "Fishwaale" would be a one-stop solution for aquaculture. It is hoped to help buyers sell their produce, which includes freshwater and seawater frozen fish, dry fish, fish pickles and processed fish products, to sellers directly. It will also allow the selling of aquaculture equipment, medicine, fish feed and fish seed online.

The products will be available for both wholesalers and retailers.

The app was developed by Aqua Blue Global Aquaculture Solutions Pvt Ltd in collaboration with the state fisheries department.

More importantly, the app is another step toward eliminating middlemen and allowing sellers to demand an appropriate price for their produce.

According to Suklabaidya, the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana also recognises fish produce as an asset to the economy.
