Assam Health Minister inaugurates new paediatric ICU beds in Diphu Medical College & Hospital

Assam Health Minister Keshab Mahanta on Monday visited the Diphu Medical College & Hospital (DMC&H).

The Minister also inaugurated the new Paediatric ICU rooms as a preparation by the DMC&H for a third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“There are already 24 ICU beds,” Dr M Chaudhury, HOD Anesthesia department informed.   

Speaking to media persons Mahanta said, “There are already 19 ICU beds. 21 more have been inaugurated today. There are altogether 40 ICU beds. Another 10 more ICU beds will be increased. That means 50 ICU beds will be available.”

Regarding the absence of a super facility in DMC&H, the Minister said, “Yes not only here but in other new medical colleges all facilities are not available, but steps have been taken to provide full facility.”

On the urgent need of CT scan, MRI and ultrasound facility the Minister said the matter would be discussed for providing more facilities in the medical college.

The inauguration ceremony was in the presence of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Chief Executive Member, Tuliram Ronghang, MP Horensing Bey, Executive Member (EM), KAAC in-charge health & family welfare, Khansing Rongpi among others.
