Assam govt to form new department to protect indigenous culture

It may be mentioned the Assam Accord guarantees safeguarding the identity and culture of the indigenous Assamese people.

DIBRUGARH: 

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on July 10 said the state cabinet has decided to form a new department to protect and uplift indigenous faiths and culture. 

Addressing a press conference, CM Sarma said, “Today, a decision was taken during the cabinet meeting that a new department on Indigenous Faith and Culture will be formed soon in the state. The language, culture of indigenous tribes in Assam is unique, hence the decision has been taken.”

“The new department will help in preserving the history of the indigenous tribal people of Assam. Every tribe has a different culture and history. So, our government is committed to work to preserve their culture and traditions,” CM Sarma added.
