Assam government to impose Rs 1000 fine for not wearing masks across districts

Sarma also said all classes for the primary level in schools will remain closed in all districts having over 100 active Covid-19 cases.

The Assam government has passed an order to impose a Rs 1000 fine on any person found without face masks across districts of Assam.

Speaking at a press conference, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “The government will impose a fine of Rs 1000 if anyone is found without face masks. The government has decided after reviewing the surge in Covid-19 cases.”

Sarma also said all classes for the primary level in schools will remain closed in all districts having over 100 active Covid-19 cases.

“After the rapid surge in Covid-19 cases and the threat that it poses to the well-being of small children, classes of all primary level will remain closed in all districts with over 100 active cases,” Sarma said.

In the last 24 hours in Assam, 573 tested positive for Covid-19 infections.

“No weekend lockdown and no night curfew in Assam as of now. All elementary schools up to V to be closed in Kamrup Metro,” he said.
