Assam: Elderly couple murdered in Guwahati's Beltola; police suspects robbery

GUWAHATI:

An elderly couple in Beltola’s Chandan Nagar area was allegedly murdered by robbers in their residence in the wee hours of October 25.
The deceased couple has been identified as Noni Gopal Baruah (87) and Mina Baruah (76).

According to the police, the robbers had entered the house through a shattered window and looted numerous items. The bodies of the deceased were discovered by the caretaker when the latter went to serve the elderly couple breakfast and found them lying in a pool of blood on the bed.
Meanwhile, efforts are on to ascertain if any valuables or cash is missing from the house, a police officer said.

''We have brought the caretaker of the couple and his wife to the police station for questioning. We are investigating all angles and it is too early to speculate anything,” the officer added.

The couple is survived by two daughters who do not live in Guwahati.
