Assam: Drug peddler arrested with 58 grams of heroin in Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH:

Dibrugarh police, on Sunday, arrested one drug peddler and seized 58 grams of suspected heroin from his residence at Nirmali Gaon in Dibrugarh.

The person has been identified as Ananta Gogoi.

"After getting specific information, we conducted an operation and seized 58 grams of suspected heroin and cash worth Rs 93,000 from the possession of one Ananta Gogoi. We have arrested the person and forwarded him to court," said Officer-in-Charge Rajiv Saikia.

Dibrugarh police have started operation against the menace of drugs in the region and arrested many drug peddlers in the past few days.

"Ananta Saikia brought these drugs to sell. There have been complaints against him from the residents of Nirmali Gaon as many youths used to come to him to procure the drugs," said a police source.

Likewise, in two separate incidents recently, Dibrugarh police conducted raids at two different locations in Dibrugarh and recovered contraband substances such as ganja and brown sugar from Panchali and Lahowal areas.

Taking note of the alarming rise in drug-related cases, a source said, "Many youths these days take drugs and involve in drug peddling to get easy money. The growing cases of drug trafficking is a serious concern for the society."
