Assam: Don Bosco Guwahati declared containment zone after teachers test COVID positive

GUWAHATI

The Kamrup Metro district administration has declared Don Bosco School at Panbazar here a containment zone after detection of COVID-19 cases among teachers of the school.

In a notification issued on February 21, Kamrup Metro Deputy commissioner Biswajit Pegu also directed the Guwahati revenue circle officer to immediately seal the entire school premises.

“In view of detection of COVID-19 positive teachers at Don Bosco School, Guwahati, and in the interest of the maintenance of public hygiene and to prevent further spread of COVID-19 virus amongst the teaching staff and students, the entire area of the school premises is declared as containment zone for the next seven days (with effect from Sunday),” the notification stated.

The order, which has been issued under the regulations “The Assam COVID-19 Regulations, 2020”, shall remain effective till February 27, 2021.

“Any unauthorised entry and exit into the notified containment zone is barred for the next seven days,” it said

“Further, the teachers are directed to attend the school for (undergoing) COVID-19 tests at 10am on February 22, 2021, to be carried out by a team deputed by the Joint Director of Health services, Kamrup Metropolitan district. For the purpose, the principal, Don Bosco School, will arrange a separate place outside the school campus,” the notifications said.

“In case of students suffering from COVID-19 symptoms, the guardians will arrange COVID-19 tests for their wards in their nearby health institutions immediately,” the order said.

“Any violation of the order will attract action under the provisions of “The Assam COVID-19 Regulations, 2020 and “Disaster Management Act, 2005, “The Epidemic Disease Act, 1897” and other relevant laws of the nation, the order added.

Meanwhile, the principal of school, Father Sebastian Mathew, has informed that the examinations scheduled during the period (February 22 to 27, 2021) have been rescheduled and that the new exam dates would be subsequently notified on the school website.
