DIBRUGARH:

Dibrugarh journalists on Friday staged a protest near Greater Dibrugarh Press club against Bharatiya Janata Party leader Pijush Hazarika for allegedly threatening Guwahati based scribes.

According to sources, Hazarika allegedly threatened to “vanish” two journalists of separate news channels for reporting a controversial poll speech of his wife.

It may be mentioned that a complaint has been filed by one journalist at Jagiroad police station in Morigaon district against the Minister.

In an audio clip telecast by Assamese news channel Pratidin Time, Hazarika was heard talking to journalist Nazrul Islam and during the conversation, the minister threatened him and another scribe, Tulsi, to drag out of their homes and “vanish” them.

“We would not tolerate such comments by a BJP minister. He should apologise for his behaviour. Incidents like threatening and assaulting journalists has become a common thing,” said Probir Chakravorty, a senior journalist of Dibrugarh.
