Assam: Dibrugarh police arrests two for drug peddling

DIBRUGARH:

Dibrugarh police on Monday arrested two persons and seized 17 grams of drugs from their possession at Boiragimoth area in Upper Assam.

The two accused have identified as Himanta Saikia (26) and Gungun Gogoi (37) of Duliajan.

“After receiving specific information about the movement of suspected youths in the area. We conducted a raid and arrested two accused and recovered 17 grams of drugs from their possession. We have started an investigation into the matter,” said Officer-in-charge of Dibrugarh police station Rajiv Saikia.

Saikia also said they seized cash worth Rs 50,000.

“Drug peddling and other narcotics trade has been flourishing in Dibrugarh for the past several years. Many youths are involved in the business to make money in order to run their daily expenses,” said a source.
