Assam: Dibrugarh DC urges people to wear masks and follow COVID-19 protocols

Dibrugarh DC informed that three counting halls in the DC office and Government Boys’ High school will be set up to avoid crowds during counting day on May 2.

Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha on Monday urged people to wear masks and maintain all the guidelines issued by the District administration because of the second wave of COVID-19.

Addressing a press conference in Dibrugarh, DC Pallav Gopal Jha said, “We have tightened COVID-19 tests at airport and railway stations to detect COVID-19 positive cases. The people should avoid crowded places and maintain social distance. The COVID-19 positive cases have been rising at an alarming rate in other states.”

“We have 60 beds with ICU and ventilation at AMCH and another 80 beds will be ready by Wednesday. 500 beds for COVID-19 will be ready in Dibrugarh by Wednesday. We are prepared this time but appealed to people to maintain the SOP’s,” he added.

Jha further added, “We have no shortage of vaccines. We have 13,840 Covishield and 4090 Covaxin in our hands. Till now, 70,116 people have taken first dose of vaccination and 18,240 people have taken the second dose of vaccination.”

Meanwhile, Dibrugarh district administration on Sunday issued a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for reopening schools from Class VI to XII because of an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases.

“We have 419 active cases till today (April 19) from April 1. There’s no shortage of Oxygen supply in our district. We have started a task force under circle officers and they are monitoring every place. If anybody is found without masks, he or she will be fined Rs 1000,” said Jha.

“We have already discussed with the political parties and told them to maintain fewer crowds during counting day,” Jha added.

The Bihu function at Bindhakota Muluk gaon, Chabua in Dibrugarh district, the native place of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has been cancelled by the organisers because of the prevailing Covid situation. 

The Bihu function was scheduled to be held on April 23.
