Assam: Couple from Dibrugarh charged for torturing a minor

According to sources, the couple Anuradha Baruah and Indrajit Handique had adopted the minor boy from Bogibeel area of Dibrugarh a few months ago, and tortured him at their residence.

DIBRUGARH:

Dibrugarh Police, on Tuesday, registered a case against a couple under the Child Labour Act for allegedly torturing a 13-year-old minor.

According to sources, the couple Anuradha Baruah and Indrajit Handique had adopted the minor boy from Bogibeel area of Dibrugarh a few months ago, and tortured him at their residence.

Following the report, police detained both husband and wife for questioning at Dibrugarh police station.

ASP (HQ) Bitul Chetia said, "We have registered a case at Dibrugarh police station and started investigation. Both husband and wife were detained for questioning,".

"We don't know if the couple adopted the minor child legally. Further investigation will clear the case," Chetia added

It has been alleged that the minor was locked inside the bathroom for two days, and the couple had threatened to kill the child.

Sources further informed that the minor disclosed about the torture he went through under the hands of the couple, prompting police to take action.
