Assam CM reviews COVID situation and development programmes in Golaghat district

The chief minister directed Deputy Commissioner Mrigesh Narayan Baruah and health officials to achieve a target of 10,000 vaccination shots per day.

Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma presided over a review meeting to assess the status of countermeasures against the COVID-19 pandemic, especially the vaccination campaign, in Golaghat district, on Wednesday.

Held at the auditorium of Sati Sadhani Kalakshetra, the meeting also reviewed the progress of development programmes in the district.

At the meeting was attended by Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, Health and Family Welfare Minister Keshab Mahanta, Finance Minister Ajanta Neog, the district commissioner, superintendent of police, and other senior officers of the government.

Stressing on the need to expand the vaccination drive through door-to-door inoculation, The chief minister directed Deputy Commissioner Mrigesh Narayan Baruah and health officials to achieve a target of 10,000 vaccination shots per day.

Taking stock of the implementation of the central government’s flagship “Jal Jeevan Mission”, the chief minister advised the district administration to focus on tea garden areas, Anganwadi centres, and elementary schools.

District functionaries were instructed to achieve the full implementation of the Mission within the stipulated deadlines, and allow access to piped water connections to all households, schools, and other social institutions, especially in the rural areas.

Sarma also reviewed the progress of roads under construction in Golaghat district. He directed the Public Works Department (Roads) to begin converting the existing Dergaon–Golaghat road into a four-lane.

District functionaries were also asked to expeditiously complete the Asom Mala project in Golaghat.

The chief minister also directed the Public Works Department (Buildings) to prepare a blueprint for sports complexes in Dergaon and Sarupothar constituencies of Golaghat district.

The district commissioner was also asked to select a suitable location for the proposed Medical College, Birangana Sati Sadhani Rajyik Vishwavidyalaya, and an integrated DC office in Golaghat district.

In this regard, the chief minister inspected three parcels of land for the proposed Medical College and Birangana Sati Sadhani Rajyik Vishwavidyalaya.

Sarma also unveiled a life-sized statue of Birangana Sati Sadhani at the Sati Sadhani Kalakshetra in Golaghat.
