Assam CM directs police to unearth cause of minor siblings’ death

GUWAHATI:

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday visited Abhayakhuti village in Kokrajhar district and met the family members of two minor sisters whose bodies were found hanging from a tree in a mysterious condition last Friday.

Interacting with the bereaved family, Sarma conveyed his sympathy to them and said the government stood firmly by the family in their time of distress.

Later, talking to media persons, the chief minister said that he visited the family to personally take stock of the incident.

He informed that the inspector-general of police, in-charge of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) and Kokrajhar superintendent of police have been asked to carry out an expeditious investigation to unearth the cause of death of the two minor girls.

Further, saying that women’s safety always remains the top priority of the Assam government, Sarma asserted that atrocity in any form against anyone would not be tolerated.

Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) chief executive member, Pramod Boro and Kokrajhar East MLA, Lawrence Islary were also present during the visit of the Chief Minister.
