Assam changes SOP for inbound passengers
The Assam health department has partially changed the standard operating procedure (SOP) for persons arriving in Assam from outside the state.
An order issued by the principal secretary to the state health department stated that, “In partial modification of the standard operating procedure (SOP) for persons arriving in Assam from outside the state, the department has decided that any person who has undergone an RT-PCR COVID test within 72 hours before arrival in the state and his/her test result is negative, would not have to undergo the mandatory COVID-19 test or quarantine upon arrival in Assam.”
“The exemption is subject to production of satisfactory documents and verification of the test result on the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) portal,” it said.
Another order issued by the department said that they would exempt children below the age of 10 arriving in Assam, from undergoing mandatory COVID-19 tests subject to the condition that they are asymptomatic.
State health and family welfare minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, while announcing the changed SOP during a media conference here on Saturday, also informed that there had been a substantial dip in the number of actual COVID-19 cases in the state.
