Assam Assembly polls: ECI team reviews preparedness

A delegation from the Election Commission of India (ECI) reviewed Assam’s preparedness for the forthcoming Assembly elections during elaborate meetings held between Monday and Wednesday.

The six-member team was led by ECI director general, Dharmendra Sharma.

Sharma and Assam chief electoral officer, Nitin Khade, conducted the review meeting on the state’s election preparedness with divisional commissioners, district Deputy commissioners-cum-district election officers, range DIGs and Superintendents of police of revenue districts on Monday and Tuesday.

The Assam Assembly elections are scheduled on April-May this year.

“All key issues covering electoral rolls, first level checking of electronic voting machines, voter-verified paper audit trail (VVPAT) system, polling stations, manpower, transportation, security besides COVID issues were discussed at length,” an official statement issued here on Wednesday said.

Feedback was taken from the districts regarding all important issues related to the smooth conduct of ensuing elections.

The ECI director general also had detailed discussions with the Assam Chief secretary, state DGP and other senior officials of the state government during the three-day visit, the statement said
