Assam, Arunachal Pradesh police rescue kidnapped 5-year-old girl in joint operation

Assam Police with the help of Arunachal Pradesh Police and local people, rescued a five-year-old girl, Kumkum Pegu, from Sika Tode village in Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday. One Arjun Pegu, a resident of Lakhimpur, has been arrested in connection with the case. According to the police, Arjun had abducted the girl from Jonai in Dhemaji district on Wednesday evening.

Daughter of Prashanta Pegu, an officer of the Jonai Fire Service Station, Kumkum, had gone missing at around 6 pm on Wednesday. After the girl’s parents informed the police, a search operation was launched along with volunteers of local bodies, Adi-Mising Baane Kebang (AMBK) and Takam Mising Porin Kebang (TMPK).

"We immediately launched a search operation. And after preliminary investigation, we found out that the minor was kidnapped in a car bearing registration number AS-01-ET-8017 and was moving towards Pasighat. Through mobile tracing, we traced the car and alerted our Arunachal Pradesh counterparts. A team from Ruksin Police Station joined the chase and during a search in the Sille area, we traced the vehicle,” said Sub Divisional Police officer, Bhargab Muni Das.

He further added that the car was found abandoned on the road and after thorough checking, the police found a PAN card belonging to the abductor along with a bottle of contraband substance in the vehicle. ”We continued our operation throughout the night and at around 5 am on Thursday, rescued the minor from an abandoned house,” said Das.
