Assam APSC Scam:Ex Congress minister’s son surrenders

Guwahati Nov 13,2017: Rajarshee Sen Deka, son of former Assam Congress minister Nilamani Sen Deka, who is wanted in a cash-for jobs scam has surrendered today.

Rajarshee, who was selected by Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) and was posted as circle officer in lower Assam's Baksa district earlier this year, is on the list of 25 civil service and police officers who had allegedly acquired the jobs in lieu of money.
Rajarshee was arrested soon after he surrendered before the police in Guwahati at the special branch headquarters.
With his surrender the number of arrests in the cash for jobs scam has increased to 31.Three more officers are on the look out by police in the same case.
With the surrender and subsequent arrest of Rajarshee, the BJP has now taken a chance to attack the Congress party by saying that the "maximum" corruption in the state took place during the 15 years of Congress rule under Tarun Gogoi. BJP leaders said Congress did not take any step against APSC chairman Rakesh Kumar Paul despite several complaints and demands by local organisations. Paul was arrested in October last year and is in judicial custody since then.
Congress, however, countered the charges saying it had ordered a CID enquiry and alleged that BJP was trying to give a political colour keeping in mind the Panchayat elections which is due next year.
