DIBRUGARH:

State Agriculture Minister Atul Bora on Friday held a detailed COVID review meeting with all the department heads of the district concerning the COVID situation in Dibrugarh.

Talking to media persons here after the meeting, Bora said, "As COVID-19 positive cases have decreased in the past few days in the district, a detailed discussion was held about the measures being taken to curb the infection further."

During the review meeting, the supply of oxygen and other pertinent issues including the problem of floods were also discussed.

He further mentioned that it was only due to the restrictions that COVID-19 cases have come down, adding that the government is deliberating with health officials on the current trend of the virus.

Issues related to floods

Bora reiterated that every year flood ravages havoc in Assam by damaging crops and the land under cultivation, therefore, the government is looking for ways to mitigate the flood situation in Assam.

"Last year, due to the COVID situation we couldn't do much, but this time we are prepared for it. We have instructed the district administration to take all possible steps to tackle the problem," he said.

Bora informed that to prevent agricultural products from being damaged, the government is planning to set up cold storage facilities across Assam.

"Through media reports, I come to know that many agriculture products were damaged due to cold storage facilities. We have discussed the matter with the Chief Minister and other stakeholders to find out ways to solve the problem," he concluded.
