Assam: 53 fresh COVID-19 cases reported from Zaloni tea estate in Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH:

A day after 90 workers and staff members from the Zaloni tea estate tested positive for COVID-19, the estate reported another 53 new cases on Thursday.

The Dibrugarh district administration had on Wednesday declared Zaloni tea estate as a containment zone and shut the garden after the massive spike.

The district administration has started vaccinating the members of the tea community and has also put in place containment measures after the surge of COVID-19 cases in the area.

Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha said, "We have started vaccination drive at Zaloni tea estate from Wednesday. At least 50 beneficiaries were vaccinated at the Zaloni tea estate. We have already declared the tea garden as a containment zone."

The Deputy Commissioner has also ordered the closure of all leased weekly hats/markets under the Tengakhat Development block with immediate effect.
