Assam: 20 students test positive in GU; classes suspended till Dec 19, all hostels closed

Notably, 12 students tested positive from hostels AT 9 and AT 8. Four students tested positive from hostel RRC 6, while one student each from hostels AT 2 and AT 3 had tested positive, according to an official from NHM.

GUWAHATI:

Gauhati University has decided to close all hostels and suspend classes till December 19 after 20 students were found Covid positive from hostel RCC6, RRC5, AT2 and AT3 during a series of tests conducted by the state health and family welfare department.

A notification issued by the GU registrar on December 13 read, “In view of the screening being undertaken by the Assam government since last days and consequent upon the detection of COVID -19 cases amongst some of the University hostel dwellers, it is notified for information of all concerned that as per the directives of the vice-chancellor of Gauhati University, the cultural night on December 14 of the Talent Search Competitions being organised by the Post Graduate Students' Union is hereby cancelled.”

“Further, as a precautionary measure, all university hostels shall remain closed from December 15 to 19. Moreover, all classes shall remain suspended from December 15 to 19,” the notification further stated.

The notification from the university has also barred the entry of outsiders to the campus during the period, besides allowing minimum functioning of offices.

Notably, 12 students tested positive from hostels AT 9 and AT 8. Four students tested positive from hostel RRC 6, while one student each from hostels AT 2 and AT 3 had tested positive, according to an official from NHM.

The official informed that their swab samples will be sent to Kolkata for the Omicron test, and that no case of Omicron infection has been reported from the state so far.
