Assam: 16 Kumbh Mela returnees test COVID-19 positive at Mariani railway station

At least 16 Kumbh Mela returnees were tested positive for Covid-19 at Mariani railway station in Jorhat district on April 19.

Mariani reported 24 COVID positive cases on Monday of which 16 are Kumbh Mela returnees, sources informed.

Deputy Commissioner of Jorhat, Roshani A Korati, informed that they have reports of nine persons who returned from Haridwar by Rajdhani Express testing positive for Covid-19.

“The nine persons had travelled together to Manab Dharma Ashram at Prem Nagar in Haridwar and were returning to their respective districts from Delhi by Rajdhani Express. They were tested positive at Mariani railway station,” said Korati.

Meanwhile, the Jorhat district administration has been taking all necessary steps to contain the disease.

The Dibrugarh district administration has also initiated a task force to crack down on people who violate the COVID-19 protocols.
