DIBRUGARH:

The National and State Disaster Response Force teams initiated a search operation in the Buridehing River on Friday to find a 12-year-old boy from Chowkidinghee, after local residents filed a missing report at Milan Nagar Police outpost, Dibrugarh, fearing he drowned in the river.

Ayushman Dowerah, a student of Class 5 at the Gyan Vigyan Academy, Dibrugarh, had gone swimming at around 4 pm on Thursday and went missing thereafter, the locals said. According to the locals, Ayushman had a quarrel with one of his neighbours on Thursday after which he took out Rs 500 from his father’s wallet and went out on his bicycle.

"Right now we can't say anything as the search operation is in process. The NDRF and SDRF teams are searching for the boy in the river," said a police source.

Meanwhile, residents of Khamtighat area suspect that the boy may have been swept away by strong river current while swimming. Police have maintained that till the search is complete, they can’t ascertain anything.
