GUWAHATI:

The Assam government has asked all employees to get vaccinated by June 30, 2021 and attend office regularly from July 1, 2021.

“It is directed that hundred percent vaccination of all government employees is ensured during the vaccination drive to be launched from June 21 across the state. Guardian officers are directed to station themselves in the respective districts assigned to them for the purpose,” an order by the chief secretary stated.

“It is to be ensured that no employee refrains from attending regular office from July 1, 2021 on the pretext of not being vaccinated,” it added.

Earlier this month, the state government had directed all fully vaccinated government employees to join work from June 14.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on June 19 informed that the state government was aiming to achieve at least three lakh vaccinations a day from June 21. If the target is met, half of the eligible population in Assam will be able to get inoculated in a month.

The inoculation drive will be carried out across 2000 vaccination centres in Assam. In the urban areas, the vaccination will continue from 8am to 8pm, in two shifts. In the rural areas, the process will start from 8 am and end at 1pm.

At every vaccination centre there will be a designated worker to help in on-the-spot registration.

Sarma had earlier directed the deputy commissioners to carry out vulnerability mapping at the block level in view of the higher COVID-19 positivity rate in smaller towns and rural areas of the state.

Till June 19, as many as 53, 23,101 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the state, of which 42,67,833 people have received the first dose while 10,55,268 have received both the doses.
