DIBRUGARH:

Protesting against the frequent power cuts in Dibrugarh, members of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) gheraoed the Assam Power Distribution Corporation Limited (APDCL) offices in parts of Dibrugarh district, on Tuesday.

Stating that the prolonged power outage has severely hit professionals working from home and students attending online classes, the students’ body submitted a memorandum to the sub-divisional engineer addressed to state power minister Bimal Borah on the issue.

Earlier, the AASU members took to the streets and raised slogans against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government.

“Frequent power cuts during summer have made the lives of the people miserable. Students bear the brunt the most. People working from home are also facing innumerable problems because of these power cuts. We want to remind the BJP government of its promises of providing 24×7 power supply,” said Rupjyoti Borthakur, AASU leader.

Notably, since the last one month, the APDCL has been resorting to power outages ranging from six to eight hours a day in areas like Milannagar, Thana Chariali, Santipara, Chowkidinghee, Khalihamari, and Boiragimoth area of Dibrugarh town.
