DIPHU:

Heeding Assam Chief Minister’s clarion call for bringing insurgent groups to the mainstream, as many as 67 cadres of the proscribed Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA) surrendered in Assam on December 23.

The cadres laid down their arms in front of Additional Director General of Police, Hiren Nath, and Karbi Anglong’s Chief Executive Member (CEM), Tuliram Ronghang, during a program organised at Dhansiripar in Karbi Anglong.

According to sources, the cadres were taken to Udalguri camp following the surrender.

Welcoming them into the mainstream, Assam Chief Minister Himanata Biswa Sarma tweeted “Committing themselves to the dream of Hon PM & Hon HM of progressive and peaceful Assam, I am glad to share that 67 cadres of DNLA laid down weapons today at Dhansiripar, Karbi Anglong in presence of @TuliramRonghang, CEM, KAAC & others(sic).”

It may be recalled that DNLA had announced ceasefire on September 24, after which 46 cadres of the outfit had surrendered on November 14, paving way for others to follow suit for bringing in long-lasting peace in Assam.
