DIBRUGARH:

Bordumsa Police on May 19 intercepted a car during Naka checking and seized 22.5 grams of contraband drugs in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh.

Police also arrested three persons involved in the act-Anando Machey (45), Biswajit Machey (38) and Deva Seng Singti (35).

The arrested persons have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and are currently at Bordumsa PS.

"The drug peddlers are active and taking advantage of lockdown, they are busy in transporting the contraband drugs. Police have been keeping a strict vigil in these activities," a police official said.

Last year, the anti-drug squad (ADS) of Changlang district police seized 3.1 kg of opium and arrested two drug traffickers from the Namchik tea garden of the district.

Sources said opium cultivation is a common thing in Arunachal Pradesh. The farmers secretly cultivate opium in their land.

Meanwhile, NGOs and social organisation have demanded the Arunachal government to take necessary action against opium cultivators in the state.
