ITANAGAR:

Jampani Farmer’s Producer Cooperative Society (JFPCS) was inaugurated in the East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh recently to promote the welfare of farmers.

The society was inaugurated by Bimol Lego, a member of the Zila Parishad of Sille-Oyan.

District Agriculture Officer (DAO) of East Siang district, Ajit Pao; Assistant Registrar of cooperative society in Pasighat, Niklen Lego; Nodal Officer in charge of CM’s Krishi Samuh Yojana in Ungkung Regon, T. Darang; Chairman of JFPCS and Gaon Burahs (headmen) were also present at the inaugural ceremony.

“Selling of farm products individually, through middlemen, has been a huge loss for the farmers, but now JFPCS will club together all the farmers in one umbrella and, products will be sold directly to the buyers, (enabling farmers) to get the actual value of their products," said Bimol Lego.

During the program, the farmers addressed their grievances and lack of timely support from the Agriculture Department, in connection with the supply of seeds and other facilities.

They also sought a better market to sell their products, as they often suffer losses since the production cost exceeds their income.

Responding to the farmers' grievances, DAO Ajit Pao said that the department is always supportive of the farmers and assured departmental help to the farmers.

Meanwhile, the Assistant Registrar of cooperative society in Pasighat, Niklen Lego highlighted the benefits of getting registered under the cooperative society, while T. Darang spoke on how farmers can avail the various government schemes meant for the support of farmers.
